Removals to Brittany from the UK
Removals to Brittany from the UK are part of the regular France services we run from our depot at Dale House, Knaresborough. David Dale has handled European removals since 1976, and our France services cover every region, from Brittany to the Côte d’Azur.
We move full households, part loads and single pieces of furniture to all four Breton departments, with one coordinator from survey to delivery.

Removals to Brittany: Where We Deliver
We deliver across the whole of Brittany, from the north coast to the Gulf of Morbihan:
| Department | Typical destinations |
|---|---|
| Côtes-d’Armor | Dinan, Saint-Brieuc, Lannion, Paimpol |
| Finistère | Quimper, Brest, Morlaix, Concarneau |
| Morbihan | Vannes, Lorient, Josselin, Pontivy |
| Ille-et-Vilaine | Rennes, Saint-Malo, Fougères, Vitré |
Many British buyers in Brittany choose rural property: stone longères, farmhouses and village houses away from the main towns. Rural addresses are part of our regular work in France.

Getting Your Belongings to Brittany
Every move to Brittany follows the same route:
- Survey – in person or by video call, to confirm volume, access and any specialist items
- Fixed-price quote – in writing, covering packing, transport and customs paperwork
- Packing – export wrapping for furniture and fragile items before loading
- Collection – from your UK address on the agreed date
- Transit – across the Channel and by road to Brittany
- Delivery – unloading and placement at your Breton address by our crew
Access is usually the deciding factor on a Brittany move. Narrow lanes, no hardstanding and long carries from house to vehicle add time, and some communes need advance notice before a large vehicle parks on a public road. We assess access at survey and flag any permit requirements before your delivery date.

Not every move to Brittany needs a full vehicle. If you are furnishing a holiday home, moving the contents of a smaller property, or sending a few pieces ahead of you, a part load is usually the more cost-effective option.
Your belongings share vehicle space with other consignments heading to France, and you pay for the space your items occupy. Packing and handling are the same as for a full load. Our guide to part load removals to Europe explains how shared loads work.

Customs When Moving to Brittany
Household goods moving from the UK to France have been treated as an import since January 2021. If you are moving your main home to Brittany, you can usually bring your personal belongings in free of duty and VAT under transfer of residence relief.
French customs generally ask for:
- A detailed inventory of the goods, with approximate values
- Proof that you lived outside the EU, normally for at least 12 months before the move
- Proof of your new French address, such as a property deed or utility bill
- A declaration that the goods are for personal use, not resale
Second homes are treated differently from a main residence, so check before you move. The GOV.UK Living in France guide is the best starting point. We prepare the removal inventory and transport paperwork with you, but do not give legal or tax advice.
Storage, Packing and Vehicles
French property purchases often take several months from signing the compromis de vente to completion. If your Breton home is not ready, your belongings can wait in climate-controlled storage at our Knaresborough depot, in units from 25 to 300 sq ft.
We can also move your car alongside your household goods through our car and bike transportation service.
