Removals from Spain to UK

David Dale has run removals from Spain to the UK since 1976. We handle full house moves, part loads, and furniture-only shipments on a weekly UK to Spain to UK service that runs roughly 50 weeks of the year. As a BAR member (number D040) with our own depot in Almoradi, we work on both sides of the route rather than passing your move to a third party.

One coordinator looks after your move from the first survey through to UK delivery, covering the customs paperwork, export-grade packing, transport, and storage at either end.

Who this page is for

This page covers removals from Spain to the UK. Most of our customers here are:

  • Returning expats clearing a full Spanish home
  • Part-load customers winding down a holiday home or second property
  • Furniture-only shipments, from a single inherited piece to a room of antiques
  • Anyone who needs Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief handled as part of the move

What Does a Spain to UK Removal Cost?

The price depends on whether your belongings fill a dedicated lorry or share space on the weekly run. Most moves from Spanish apartments and two to three-bedroom properties go as part loads, where you pay for the cubic metres your goods occupy rather than the whole vehicle.

A dedicated full lorry suits larger homes where you want the vehicle to yourself and a delivery date set around your UK completion. Because our lorry runs every week on the UK to Spain to UK route, part-load customers join a scheduled service rather than waiting for a vehicle. At survey stage we give you a written fixed-price quote covering collection, transit, customs handling, and UK delivery. For more on what drives the figure, see our guide to what affects the cost of removals from Spain to the UK.

Post-Brexit customs and Transfer of Residence

Since 2021, household goods crossing from Spain into the UK are treated as imports. Most returning residents apply for Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief to bring their own possessions back without paying import duty. The main conditions:

ConditionRequirement
Minimum time lived outside the UK before the move12 months
Goods owned and in use forAt least 6 months
HMRC Unique Reference Number (URN)Required before goods reach the UK border
Valued inventory of all itemsMust accompany the shipment
Supporting documentsProof of Spanish residence, rental agreements, or similar

Our coordinators have handled ToR applications on the Spain to UK route for years. We prepare the inventory, flag the documents you need, and submit the ToR1 application with your move. For involved cases such as business assets or inherited goods, we price the customs work at survey stage. For formal rulings, check directly with HMRC, as requirements can change.

Part Loads vs Full Loads from Spain

A part load groups your belongings with other UK-bound consignments on the same vehicle, so you pay only for the space you use. It suits studios, one-bedroom flats, holiday homes, and single-room shipments. Typical timing is 10 to 21 days on our weekly service.

A dedicated full lorry carries only your belongings and runs door to door. It suits full two to four-bedroom households, time-critical moves tied to completions or school dates, and mixed loads with pianos, antiques, or motorbikes that are better without a second handling. Typical transit is 5 to 7 working days.

Not sure which fits? Volume drives the answer more than distance. Tell us what you are moving and we will quote both options so you can choose on price and timing.

Packing for the Spain to UK Route

The road distance and sea crossing mean packing standards matter more on a Spain to UK move than on a short UK domestic job. Our crews use export-grade materials on every Spain to UK shipment: double-walled boxes, bubble wrap, moving blankets, and specialist crating for fragile or high-value items.

You can:

  • Pack non-fragile items yourself using our supplied flat-pack boxes, keeping that cost line down
  • Ask for partial packing on fragile rooms only (kitchen, art, ceramics, mirrors)
  • Book a full export-grade pack if you are not in Spain at collection time and need everything handled

For antiques, marble, glass furniture, or ceramics, we flag export wrapping and specialist crating at survey stage and include it in the written quote.

Storage at Either End

If your UK completion date is not confirmed when your Spanish property completes, we can hold your goods in climate-controlled storage at our Knaresborough facility, in units from 25 to 300 sq ft, until you are ready. We can also hold goods at our Almoradi depot in Spain if you need to clear the Spanish property before the UK end is ready. See our storage in Spain options for the Spanish side.
